SHAPED 3D RELIEF ABSTRACT DIGITAL WORKS printed on canvas.

Above I start on the computer with photo images that are enlarged and translated into abstract digital pixel patterns. Then I print these images on canvas, paste them onto boards, cut pieces out, and then layer these in a new compositional arrangement so they hang in 3D relief away from the wall surface. Most are around 44"x45" and 2" deep. To see these Watch my video HERE.

With these works I start with digital scans of flowers which are the rearranged compositionally, printed onto canvas, stretched onto custom made shaped canvas stretcher frames, so they hang in 3D relief away from the wall surface. Most are aroundt 44"x46" by 1.5" deep and those below 18"x18" by 1.5" deep.

About the ARTIST

New Works
Pushing the envelope. iPhone created images
As an old photographer who used to mix developer chemistry for film and paper processing this digital technology is a huge leap. But then I also really love it for what new things it brings, especially what new imagery it provides me as an artist. Every day more and more inexpensive apps appear in the iTunes store.
As I experiment with these apps on my iPhone and iPad I continually discover ways of creating new and totally surprising imagery. And my current way of working is to take an iPhone image and process the image with an app, port it to another app that changes it, and port it to another app yet again. So I keep working some images over and over again to arrive at a totally different appearance. And I really can't know where it will go or end. Surprise is the main part of the process as well as the pleasure of getting a totally unexpected image. It is, for me, the act of pushing the envelope in image creation, discovery of something completely unusual and different in appearance. Straight photography had some of this discovery but this is that ramped up times ten, and even more.
