Los Angeles Hand Surgeon website!

I am a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the hand (CAQSH). I am a fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS)Dr. Raymond B. Raven III, M.D. | Los Angeles Hand Surgeon - Hand surgeon in Los Angeles - Los Angeles Hand doctor - Hand Doctor in Los Angeles and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). I am also an active member of American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS). I serve on several committees for the ASSH and was recently selected to be one of the "Future Leaders" in Hand Surgery. I am active in scientific research and frequently participate in clinical trials.

My clinical and surgical expertise is in the treatment of musculoskeletal (bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles) and neurovascular (nerves and blood vessels) conditions of the elbow, wrist and hand in children and adults. These problems include fractures (broken bones) and dislocations, tendon lacerations, numbness and tingling in the arm and hand (carpal tunnel syndrome and thoracic outlet syndrome), joint pain from causes such as arthritis, nerve injuries, tendonitis (tennis elbow), etc.

Although my practice is located in Burbank, California, I have a large referral base that includes: Pasadena, Glendale, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Toluca Lake, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Hollywood, Santa Clarita, and most cities located throughout the San Fernando Valley and Greater Los Angeles area. I am a volunteer Faculty member for the USC Department of orthopaedic surgery.

I was born and raised in San Jose, California. I completed my undergraduate education at the University of California, Irvine, where I majored in molecular biology and biochemistry and minored in philosophy of science. I completed medical school and residency at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF).

During residency, I spent time in South Africa where I volunteered as a trauma and reconstructive surgeon in the small village of Umtata (where Nelson Mandela was born). Following residency, I traveled to Europe where I studied complex conditions of the wrist and hand at the 'Institut Kaplan' in Barcelona, Spain. After returning to the United States, I studied pediatric and congenital surgery of the upper limb at the Texas Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Finally, I completed my fellowship training in Manhattan, New York, at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons.

I practice medicine by adhering to the strict principles of "evidence based medicine." This is accomplished by integrating his clinical and surgical expertise with the best available scientific evidence from recently published systematic research.

I also believe in a multidisciplinary approach and always maximizes conservative treatment before considering surgery. This includes physical and occupational therapy, complementary and alternative medicine (such as acupuncture, yoga, pilates, etc), prescription medications and steroid injections when appropriate. Unfortunately In some cases conservative treatment modalities fail to result in the desired outcome. And in such instances I may recommend surgery. However, all treatment recommendations are aimed towards pain control, restoration of function, and return to a better quality of life.
