Welcome from the
Grand Lodge of Alaska

intro

Welcome ...

Time to prepare for greatness is more than words, look in every town and city in America. The tools of measurement are used to impress upon the mind a positive influence and freedoms given to society. Freemasonry is the oldest sacred fraternal order in the world and is active in many a free country and province. Centuries past and present day traveling multitudes of men trusting one another have taught the lessons they believed within our "Great Lights" with aid of the three lesser lights to guide their timeless steadfast truth.

For answers to eternal questions: “What is the meaning of Brotherhood of Man?” “The nature of the "Fatherhood of God," the relationship between our creator and man?”

We are a fellowship where a gathering of friends and brothers assembles, seeking the sacred bonds of his own free will and accord, admitting men of sound mind and good character who, in America, have reached the age of twenty-one years, who might otherwise from afar remained strangers.

Freemasonry is the oldest known sacred brotherhood known to man. Freemasonry written history dates back to the 1700’s. While there is a lot to hear about Masonry, you will not realize an experience of the sacred bond between brothers unless you ask, seek, and knock of,
"Your Own Freewill and Accord"

A desire to travel as a steadfast Brother must come from within a faithful breast, not coercion.

Grand Master's Message

grand-master

Brethren,

2020 was a challenging year for each and every one of us, in our personal, professional and masonic lives. We each met those challenges differently, but we have all come out on the other side. I believe in 2021, we will find us returning to much of the normalcy we lost in 2020. Maybe not the first day, week or even month, but we will get there.

As we go into 2021, we have a unique opportunity. We are privileged not only to revitalize our craft, but also to reimagine it. As we come back to normalcy, we can learn from our time apart, understanding better how to come together and to do it safely. Not all of our brothers will rejoin us as quickly as others will. But no brother will be left behind, as we will work to keep everyone involved.

I believe this decade is for Masons. The values which are taught, recommended and encouraged in our Blue Lodges, by our Prince Hall Brothers and by all our appendant and concordant bodies are needed. They are needed in our country, in our states and in our local communities. As Masons, we have the opportunity, if not the duty to take these lessons and values into our daily lives. We do this through our actions: how we interact with our families, our friends and with strangers. Our actions matter in public and in private. Through our actions we can change our own little part of the world. But as we each change and improve our little part, other parts that have been similarly changed by other Masons begin intertwine and overlap. This is how we make a difference, and this is how we attract good men to our fraternity.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your willingness this year to support our craft. I understand that everyone’s time is valuable. I pledge this year I will respect the time each of our members, commit to the Craft and work to support a meaningful masonic experience for each one of them.

This coming year we will achieve great things. Your Grand Lodge officers are committed to the success and health of Masonry in Alaska. I ask your support as we move forward and make 2021 a year to remember.

Appeal of Our Ancient Craft Forever Strong

Together we cultivate the character within men with a concerted effort to help a new brother discover the strength within the brotherhood of ones own freewill and accord; when in a more leisurely age this wisdom was spread over many years, the fraternity today is often challenged to hold the focus of the new brother against the many attractions of so-called modern life. Good habits of lodge attendance and interest in the Fraternity are created while the first enthusiasm is high; moreover, every candidate has an inherent privilege to understand the reality of our opportunities, the meaning of our mysteries, the truth of our tenets, and the significance of our symbols for the asking.

Masonry is a brotherhood extending throughout the world, and never is a Mason truly alone, fitting our minds as "living stones" for that spiritual building, during our travels to that undiscovered country, that house not made with hands, eternal in the Heavens. One who is dedicated, recognizing a need for justice, truth, charity, freedom, and true moral integrity to his Living God and with all aspects of mankind more especially a brother.

"Masonry is a never ending education of high morals, noble deeds, charitable giving, brotherly love, relief and truth." MW James R. Herrington.

While much of lodge activity is promoting fellowship and encouragement, our lodges have picnics, camping trips, and many events for the whole family. Simply put, a lodge is a place to spend time with family. It's good to spend time with the family of Masons you can trust completely, and Masons find that in their lodge.

Certainly, there are occasions open to the public, examples of are Ladies' Nights, "Bring a Friend to Dinner Nights," public installations of officers, Cornerstone Laying ceremonies, and other special occasions supporting community events and dealing with topics of local interest. Masons also sponsor Ladies groups such as The Order of Eastern Star and Amaranth, and Youth Groups such as Rainbow, Job's Daughters; for girls, and Order of DeMolay for Boys.

Appeal for All Brethern Wherever Dispersed

Grand Architect of the Universe, show us how to take our lives in their rude and natural state and dress, square, and polish them so that we might become disciplined and educated. Enable us to uncover the Perfect Ashlar within us by removing the superfluous material which encrusts our lives. Teach us how best to perfect our spiritual edifice within the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Alaska.Amen.

Gracious Father, remind us of the importance of keeping the promises we have made to each other and to You. Teach us that the obligations we have taken upon ourselves cannot be forgotten or overlooked. Show us that the only way to honor our obligations is to live in harmony with them on a daily basis. Keep us faithful in living with, living in awareness of, and living up to or Masonic Obligations. Guide us in the responsibilities which are ours as we assemble to conduct our business.

May our hope also through prayer maintain a spirit of harmony, understanding, and mutual concern to pervade our discussions and decisions. May we grow in our sensibility to the many needs of our brothers and in our determination to assist our Craft to continue to move toward Your expectations for prosperity.

May each of us gathered here look within and resolve to seek Your guidance on every issue before us that we may become more qualified to make the right choices for Masonry which has always been, in itself an appendant body to Your work.

Deliver us the benefits of living our lives to be as pure and spotless as was the first Masonic apron presented to us. May we always be careful about our reputation as individual Masons and as a sacred Brotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of God united together.

Remind us of the blessings which flow from purity of heart and blamelessness of conduct in a world where scandal seems to be the rule rather than the exception. Guide us on our way as we journey from this place and strengthen us to make purity of life and rectitude of conduct our aim. To the Honor of Thy Holy Name, Amen. SO MOTE IT BE!

To define our craft, a well found truth..."we admit that it is not in the power of any man, or body of men, to make innovations in the body of Masonry."
