Whereas on this date, the legal profession will now recognize Georgia Legal Cookie Day as an official holiday of the State of Georgia.
Whereas the following series of events has brought about Georgia Legal Cookie Day:
Attorney Phillip J. Blarnstone, with his assistant Sue Johnson, upon
leaving to court, grabbed up his pertinent files and picked up the
Fed-Ex box containing the final rush transcript needed for his case.
Upon entering the elevator, Sue hit the “lobby” button. Halfway down, between the fourth and fifth floor, the elevator jammed. Phillip looked at his watch realizing there was an hour and a half to get to court, scrambled for the emergency button. After engaging the button periodically for 30 minutes and no one coming, Phillip and Sue began to panic.
Four hours later, Phillip, realizing he missed his trial, became excited about the potential lawsuit against Falti Elevators and perhaps the building maintenance company and several others.
Eventually the excitement wore off after 72 hours when hunger pangs became extreme. Sue, delirious, hungry and tired, remembered her favorite court reporting company enclosed goodies with every transcript. Sue grabbed the Fed-Ex box, ripped the top off, and pulled out a bag of cookies and goodies from Elizabeth Gallo Court Reporting. Sue screamed with delight as she and Phillip wolfed down chocolate chip, snicker doodle, and oatmeal cookies.
Sue and Phillip, after regaining their strength, were able to shout for help and finally be heard and taken for medical assistance. Dr. Wilham Bungalo wrote in his chart that, in fact, it was Elizabeth Gallo Court Reporting’s cookies that saved the lives of Phillip and Sue. This momentous event provides the backdrop for this year’s celebration for Georgia Legal Cookie Day.
